Fall, 2019

For my first term back in art class for an entire year, I decided to make a project that meant something to me. I first thought of what my core values are and what is most important to me in my life. The main idea that came to me was trust. I then brainstormed ways I can show trust in nonliteral ways.

After that, I researched different artists and came up with more specific images of what I want to show and included locations. I wrote down keywords, like vulnerability, tension, and symmetry. I came up with ways to show these keywords and wrote them all down.

Once I figured out what I wanted to photograph, I came up with a list of people willing to be in my photos. I then created a list of goals, so I stay on top of my work and finish the project with enough time. I first played with actions that represent trust and then I incorporated more emotion into my photos, which I decided to focus on more.

Winter, 2020

I first developed my own ideas of what represents fear without doing any research. I talked to Ms. Roberts and we added some more ideas and she gave me some artists to research.

Once I had some broad ideas created a list based on extensive research I found from various websites about how I can show fear.

Then, I made a list of specific images I wanted to create from more research on the different themes I found in my previous research surrounding fear.

After that, I wrote a schedule, found people who were willing to be in my photos, and decided upon locations to take these photos. Then, I decided which days to take these photos so I stay on top of my work.

Once I had a solid idea of what types of photos I wanted to take and what location/background I was aiming for, I started to experiment. Over winter break I took several photos that helped inspire me for the future photos I planned on taking.

My friend, Charlotte Ketterson, showed me a video she made from her videography class. The video was of an old, abandoned house and gave me inspiration for my project.
